The City Angels - Non governamental organization (Ngo)
Welcome to our website!
We are the only Italian non-profit organization that deals both with solidarity and safety. We patrol the streets of Italy's main cities to help the homeless and prevent crime. Our mission is to make our cities more friendly and secure.
Established in 1994 in Milan by founder Mario Furlan, we are recognizable by our blue beret - a symbol of peace forces - and by our red t-shirt or jacket showing the Association's logo, an eagle that embraces and watches over the city.
The Angels in numbers
We are:
- 60% men, 40% women
- 30% foreigners: we have Angels from 17 different countries! We are proud of being a multiracial, multiethnical organization, where people from all over the world work together for the sake of their fellow citizens
- Average age: 20-45 years. Our oldest Angel, Klaus, is now 71!
Since our foundation we have:
- served over three million meals and distributed 900,000 items of clothing to the homeless
- escorted more than 4,000 people (especially women and elderly who fear being mugged)
- assisted 700 disabled people
- stopped over 600 fights
- provided emergency medical assistance to 500 people
- found housing for 450 homeless people
- prevented over 300 thefts, 250 pickpocketings and 120 muggings
- rehabilitated 136 drug addicts
- saved the lives of 107 drug addicts who overdosed
- saved the lives of 92 citizens who were hurt or attacked
- provided public order and assistance services - courtesy service - at numerous public and private events.
Pope Benedict XVI has called us boy scouts of the third millennium. We have received the Ambrogino d'Oro, the most important recognition of the city of Milan.
City Angels in Europe
We are planning to open chapters in the rest of Europe too, starting from Switzerland: we shall open a chapter in Lugano in autumn 2008.
Are you interested in opening a chapter in any European country? Contact us by writing at info@cityangels.it and you will be welcome!
